Hitchcock is a master. He begins with a smartly choreographed pan across the Rear Window set. Its paced perfectly with a neighbor singing her scales. Grace Kelly's soft shadow rises over the last light of a summer's day that rests on Stewart's sleeping face ... Hitchcock adores Kelly and shapes the film to make her look like part of a dream. Pure Grace. He wakes us softly with her kiss first then her voice. Stewart and Kelly exchange caring wit. "... Who are you?" (we all want to know). "Lisa" (light one) "Carol" (light two) "Freemont" (light three). Absolute Perfection.

Leaving, he encounters Tilly as she is about to make a second attempt on Goldfinger's life, but accidentally trips an alarm. Bond and Tilly attempt to escape, but Oddjob breaks Tilly's neck with his hat. Bond is soon captured and Goldfinger has Bond tied to a table underneath an industrial laser, which slowly begins to slice the table in half. Bond then lies to Goldfinger that British Intelligence knows about Grand Slam, causing Goldfinger to spare Bond's life in order to mislead MI6 and the CIA into believing that Bond has things well in hand.

The central question of this movie is, "Who is Kaiser Soze?" After sitting through a great film, with interesting characters, wonderful dialogue, suspense, action, humor, drama, romance, intrigue, we finally learn the answer to that question in a great twist ending, revealed in a brilliant montage. The montage includes clips from the present time, flashbacks to earlier scenes, close-up clips of the words and phrases found around the office, with Verbil Kent's voice over. It blew me away the first time I saw it, and it still does to this day. It's some of the best movie making ever. And like that . . . He's gone.

The film's pivotal scene, and one of the most famous scenes in cinema history, is the murder of Janet Leigh's character in the shower. As such, it spawned numerous myths and legends. It was shot from December 17 to December 23, 1959, and features 77 different camera angles. The scene "runs 3 minutes and includes 50 cuts." Most of the shots are extreme close-ups, except for medium shots in the shower directly before and directly after the murder. The combination of the close shots with the short duration between cuts makes the sequence feel longer, more subjective, more uncontrolled, and more violent than would the images if they presented alone or in a wider angle.
