Two trillion dollars (that's $2,000,000,000,000) are spent every year on medication in this country. That's nearly 20% of our GDP! In 2000, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association, the US rated 37 out of 40 industrialized nations in wellness care. In 2007, the OECD found more of the same and worse. The US spent $6500 per individual on "well being" care. Japan had the finest ranking, a tiny over $2000 per individual.
